Looking for a simple, fun project to make your Halloween party stand out? Custom Halloween place cards using PLR is a great way to add a spooky, festive touch to your gathering. Whether you're going for haunted hors d’oeuvres or want to add a personal touch with seating arrangements, place cards are a simple yet impactful accent.
Today, I’m going to show you how to make your own Halloween-themed place cards using the free Halloween clipart I shared with you last week! We're going to use Canva for this project, but don’t worry if you don’t have the pro features—we’ll work around that.
Getting Started: Halloween Place Cards Using PLR
First things first: head over to Canva and click on Create Design. In the search bar, type “place cards” and choose the template that pops up. This will give you a basic place card layout that’s 3.5 inches wide by 4 inches tall.
Next, enable the guides and rulers in Canva. This will help you see the card's exact size and make sure everything lines up neatly. To set up guide lines, click File, go to Settings, and select Add Guides.
Next, we're going to select “custom guides”. Adjust the columns to “0” and the rows to “2” so you can easily see the front and back of the card will be while you are designing.
Now you’re ready to start designing.
Upload Your Halloween Clip Art to Canva
I’ve already uploaded the images we’ll be using. If you haven’t got the clip art yet, grab it from Weekly PLR Content. I pre-removed the backgrounds to save you time, but if you want to do it yourself, you can also use tools like Photopea.com.
Once you have your images ready, upload them to Canva. Click Uploads, and then drag and drop the images into the workspace.

Designing Your Spooky Halloween Place Card
Adding Your First Image
For the front of the card, let’s use a skeleton from the Halloween clipart PLR pack. Select the skeleton image, and drop it onto the card. Resize it if needed, and give it a little tilt for extra character. Just make sure it’s not too big—a good rule of thumb is to leave some space for text and other design elements.
Creating a Background for the Place Card
Let’s spice up the background. Click on Elements and select a square shape. Stretch it to cover the bottom part of the card, then move it behind the skeleton using the Position tool.
Next, add a Gradient effect. Gradients introduce depth and visual interest to what would otherwise be a plain background. After applying a gradient, use the Color Selector to choose shades that match or complement your clip art. For example, if the skeleton has turquoise details, choose similar tones to create harmony in the design.
Customizing the Back of the Card
You don’t want the back of the card to look empty. Duplicate your gradient background from the front and apply it to the back of the card. If you prefer a simpler back, you could just fill it with one solid color—keeping it cohesive with the front design.
Adding Halloween Graphics
To make things even more interesting, let’s add some free Halloween-themed decorations. Head back to Elements, use the filter to choose “Free” designs, and search for Halloween. There’s a cool spider web element that works great here. Drag it to the top of the card and resize it so it covers the top edge.
You can adjust the spider web's color to match the rest of your design by using the color palette. In this case, try a Halloween-appropriate pink or orange.
Let's Add Some Text!
Now it’s time to add text. Click on Text and choose Add Heading. Type in the spooky name of a treat you’ll be serving at your party, like “Witch’s Finger Sandwiches” or “Ghostly Guacamole.”
Don’t like the default font? No problem. Try using a Halloween-inspired font that you can find in Canva's library or at online at Creative Fabrica. Make sure it’s easy to read but spooky enough to match the theme. Adjust the size so that it fits neatly on the card without overpowering the artwork.
Adding a Background for the Text
To ensure the text stands out, let’s place a shape behind it. Choose a square or rectangle from Elements, stretch it over the text area, and then send it behind the wording. Make it slightly transparent so that it enhances readability without hiding too much of the background design.
Finishing Touches: More Fun Elements
If you think the design still needs something extra, you can always add more Halloween graphics. A bat, a broomstick, or even a haunted house silhouette can complement your place card perfectly. Remember to keep it balanced—don’t clutter the card with too many elements.
Saving and Printing Your Halloween Place Cards
Once you're happy with your design, it’s time to save it. Canva automatically saves your work, but it’s always a good idea to give your project a recognizable name like “Halloween Place Cards.” When you’re ready to print, simply download your file as a PDF or print directly from Canva for the best quality.
If you need more place cards, you can easily duplicate the page and adjust the text and images to make each one unique.
Wrapping It Up

Can I customize the size of the place cards?
Yes! The default size is 3.5 inches by 4 inches, but you can adjust the dimensions if you'd prefer a different size. Just be sure to modify the guidelines in Canva to match your new card size.
How can I make the place cards printable at home?
Once your design is complete, you can download it as a PDF from Canva. For best results, choose “PDF Print” in the download options to ensure the highest quality. You can then print them at home or use a professional printing service.
